The Digital Revolution    4x4.4

Analysing future drivers of change and how architectural education will change with the advancements of digital technology. 
In a world where the virtual and the physical world run almost parallel with each other, can we differentiate between the two? 

The aim of this brief was to purposefully answer the question:

 

"What are the key prioirties in design which ensure that the buildings we construct today are adaptable, sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change?"

 

I selected to develop how the futures would be determined by education and technology, using them as drivers for change in my proposal. I believe that the architectural industry will have a big role to play in the adaptability of the future, especially those in current architecture education. I decided to depict my proposal in the form of a comic strip, which I think was an effective method of displaying the narrative. 

 

My proposal, the advancement of technology to replicate the physical world in a digital environment. A future where you can digitally access an environment which can manipulated in any shape or form. In the UK at the moment especially, architecture graduates are not recieveing enough practical education and producing alot of 'paper architecture'. Imagine an environment where you can produce anything you imagine and test it in practical conditions of the physical world? Where lecturers are depicted as instrumental professionals throughout the ages, where you can access vast information instantly and retain that knowledge? Imagine virtually walking a client through a building and being able to make instant changes to designs? This is the future of architecture education and technology as a whole. Architecture students can develop sustainable theories and designs and test them in real world scenarios, test them over a simulation of years and being able to forecast issues before any construction takes place.
