Life, Death & Decay 4x4.2
A hand drawn investigation into plant life in differing typologies.

Taking my skills to Moor Park, Preston I went about searching for a selection of examples of my concept of Life, Death & Decay.
This project was all about reverting back to hand drawn investigations, using the paper and drawing methods to communicate ideas/concept. Initially I was looking at decay as a concept and how this can translate in the short term and long term. I later adapted my concept to the life cycle of plants. I drew each of these paintings with a HB pencil and then used water soluble pencils for the renderings.
The image of 'Life' is represented by a single shoot in the undergrowth of Moor Park. It shows how much of a necessity the nutrients gained from other dying species is to the plants life, as it is fighting for suitable amount of sunlight. The dead leaves and moist soil providing the nutrients for growth.
The 'Death' painting was used as a way of communicating the differing textures and changing form of a leaf during its death. The edges start to curl, crispen and the colour turns from a green to a patchy orange/yellow.
The final drawing was that of 'Decay'. I have previously studied these fungal growths in my third year project, but came across this specimen in Moor Park. This parchment fungi only appears in the decaying plant life, these growths have always intrigued me and vastly differ in shape, size and textures.
